Pa pa ya, Lower Parel: 5/5

What is a 5 star rating? Just good delicious food ain’t good enough – the experience also matters. The ambience. The hospitality. And most importantly – U need to be surprised…. pleasantly!

Pa pa ya is an Asian Cuisine restaurant set around Molecular Gastronomy like sister restaurant – Masala Library. However, unlike the latter, Pa Pa Ya is more like a classy lounge bar which not only offers amazing cocktails and food but a lively ambience.

Enter: 8.30pm on a crowded Thursday evening, we were immediately seated to our reserved table. It felt like I was entering a different world – with its cubical décor and energetic light work. You forget about your hectic day and suddenly a gust of positive vibes bring a smile to your face thanks to the lively music. Our server for the evening was Ashutosh and he was amazingly well versed with all the dishes and very patient with us to explain whatever was served.

We started with Yin Yang – vodka based cocktail and their famous Wise Whiskey. I was blown away with their presentation – served over dry ice, these are indeed nitrogen infused smoky frothy cocktails with hint of mint flavor with soothing effect. Perfection at its best! We also tried Tokyo Summer which was refreshing.

We were offered watermelon palette cleanser (awesome) and then started with Sushi Matrix served with soya sauce. Guys, I have never experienced such classy presentation with even better delicious preparation – there was smoked avocado, Asupara, Hamachi roll and so much more! Try carbon sushi too!! I have never enjoyed sushi before but this time I loved it and I think I have found my Sushi Place in Mumbai. An even better surprise and HIGHLY recommended are the Sushi Burgers – served with molecular soya – science meets art!!! They recommend using your hands instead of chopsticks and indeed – Yummy!

My next favorite on the menu was red curry infused wild mushroom – open faced baked dimsums served with mushrooms and cream cheese that melts in your mouth! Divine!

Some other must trys: chilly chicken shwarma made in hot pepper cream – pa pa ya style. Grilled chicken avocado tacos – wow!! This was particularly served on a very interesting taco friendly tray – such tiny details – commendable.

The BIGGEST surprise was the crab and scallop ravioli – omg!! Hats off to the artist chef behind this!! I was literally blown away. You cannot leave this place without trying this!

Coming to the main course – but before that again pallette cleanser with a ting of wasabi that left an amazing experience. We opted for Lamb Rendang Curry – lamb was prepared 15 hrs and it was literally falling off the bone on its own – such tender meat served with curry and roti. Our second dish was Sichuan style crispy prawns – the size of these prawns was HUGE!! N needless to say – deliciously prepared with diced onions, leeks and spring onions.

Alas, humans have a limited appetite but deserts find their own special place in stomach- Chocolate Fire Ball – OMG! SINFUL. I have never had a better desert – the way flames melt the chocolate is so cool! It’s an experience, not just any dessert.

Yes I was finally full but I’m definitely coming back to this place – again and again – to try other stuff on the menu. And of course for delightful courteous experience – where they treat their guests royally!
