Peninsula is the Indian restaurant located on the first floor of the The Peninsula Grand Hotel. It holds a variety of themed festivals and I happened to visit their Kebabs n Biryani Festival.
The restaurant has a classic interior that was decorated to give it the Kebabs n Biryani Festival feel to it. There was a also a small group of musicians that played live Indian music from ghazals to classic romantics. With the tabla and harmonium, it was a perfect ambience. They also took requests and we were sure to give a few. I think it was the highlight of the evening.
Since it was the Kebab n Biryani Festival, we stared with the Murgh Anarkali Tikka. These were chicken kebabs laced with pomegranate. The chicken pieces were well marinated with Indian spices adding a spicy flavor to it and then char grilled to perfection. The smokey taste was awesome indeed. And the quantity was indeed huge.
The Murgh Applelow: These were chicken drumsticks which were truly juicy and fun. And the creative part was that it was stuffed with minced chicken liver and shrimps. I enjoyed the drumstick bit.
Biryani: They have a variety of Biryani options in both veg and non veg flavours. We tried the Dum Lamb Biryani and it was served in a small pot with aata cover on the top adding the “Dum” to it. The Lamb was well cooked ensuring it’s tender but not chewy. The Saffron rice had a beautiful aroma and was well cooked too.
We tried the dessert – Malai Kulfi – which was totally awesome. It was frozen and cut in pieces and tasted totally awesome. Loved the sweet taste, smooth texture – perfect.
The manager was very courteous and helpful. The staff needs some polishing but they were prompt with the service. Overall a nice and warm welcome with quick service.
I’m definitely looking forward to the multiple festivals here and hope to visit again soon. Even their regular menu is great and I definitely recommend this place for family and friendly outings!
